ABOUT THE CHURCH

The United Holy Caribbean Apostolic Church traces its historic Apostolic Succession back to the Holy Apostles, who themselves were saved, trained, and sent by the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Church of Rome finds her succession and existence coming from the hands of the holy and August Apostles Simon-Peter and Paul. Established by Jews among Gentiles, this historic diocese had Saint Linus the Apostle as her first Bishop. The influence of the Church of Rome grew dramatically and was felt for generations, with the Bishop of Rome leading among the Christians of all the world, being called the “First Among Equals”, “the Pope of the Holy Roman Catholic Church”, “the Primate of Italy”, and “the Patriarch of the West”.

In 1493 a.d., His Majesty Ferdinand 2nd, the  "Catholic King", requested that the Pope of Rome establish a Patriarchate for the Caribbean West Indies; this request was denied by Pope Leo X.  On May 11th, 1524 a.d., Pope Clement IV of Rome would reluctantly grant this request and enthroned Bishop Antonio de Rojas Manrique of Burgos as the 1st Patriarch of the West Indies. This established the Patriarchate of the West Indies for Spain which would eventually be left vacant by the Church of Rome. The United Holy Caribbean Apostolic Church would re-establish the Patriarchal See of the West Indies.

On August 1st, 2015, by prayer and the leading of the Holy Spirit, the official decision was made by the unanimous agreement of the Church to change the name of the Church officially to "The Holy Orthodox Catholic Church of Trinidad and Tobago", shedding most of its old identity. The official decree to become a standing and canonical National Catholic Church was fully and canonically recognized and received by the Worldwide Communion of Catholic and Apostolic Churches. The Patriarchate was officially deemed to be recognized as being an autocephalous Church headed by "the Metropolitan-Archbishop of Port of Spain, Senior Apostle, Patriarch, and Primate of All Trinidad and Tobago".

In April of 2019, the Church Synod voted unanimously to adopt the expanded vision and rename the Church: the United Holy Caribbean Apostolic Church. The territory of the Church expanded to that of the original plan given by God through King Ferdinand 2nd and stated in the original 2015 Tomos of autocephaly: "This Autocephalous Pentecostal, Orthodox, and Catholic Church shall have exclusive spiritual and canonical jurisdiction over all bishops, clerics and laymen of the country of  Trinidad & Tobago, as well as those who are presently part of the Metropolitan-Archdiocese of the United States of America, or who shall later enter the Metropolitanate; and over all parishes which now belong or later shall be accepted into the Metropolitanate of the various surrounding Caribbean Islands..."
