At the request of King Ferdinand 'The Catholic', king of Spain, the Patriarchate of the West-Indies was reluctantly created in the year 1524 ad by the decree of Archbishop Clement VII, the Pope of Rome and Patriarch of the West. Due to the reluctance of the Vatican, the Patriarchate of the West Indies was initially created as a Titular See Seat. Pope Clement VII consecrated His Excellency Antonio de Rojas Manrique, Archbishop of Granada (Spain), to be the 1st Patriarch of the West Indies
