The historic apostolic succession of the Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East follows along the lines of Eastern Catholic Church tradition. The Melkite Greek Catholic Church of Antioch is an Eastern Catholic Church in full communion with the Church of Rome. Ecumenical Patriarch Jermeias III of Constantinople deemed his election to the Patriarchate invalid and excommunicated Cyril. Half of the Church split away, recognizing Cyril as the rightful Patriarch. Communion was restored back between the Greek Melkite Patriarchate of Antioch and the Latin Church of Rome.
